"Apple Crumble counts as a serving of fruit, right?" - Michael
And that's the way the" Apple Crumbles:
Anybody up for some good ole' apple crumble? Whenever we prepare this one, breakfast is served for the next couple of days. You know, we only live once, so you better make sure you start your day with some dessert camouflaged as breakfast. Some would say it's the wolf in sheep clothes, we simply say: "YOLO.", throw our hands up in the air like we just don't care and dig deep.
Ingredients - Apple Crumble /
9 servings
Baked good
350g Apples
155g Almond flour
1/2 Package of Baking powder
115g Butter
1 large Egg
55g Sweetener of choice
110g Apple Compote
Salt
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Speculoos Spices (if this doesn't ring a bell, don't worry - our Dutchies will know)
Crumble
135g Oats
40g Pecan
40g Sweetener of choice
20g Coconut Oil
1. Cut the apples into cubes. Mix them in a bowl with some lemon juice.
2. While doing so, make sure to melt the butter in the microwave or ideally in a water-bath.
3. Mix the almond flour and baking powder, add a pinch of salt to give it a nice flavor. Add some spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and speculoos spices (something you might only be able to find in the Netherlands. If you know, you know).
4. Add the butter, egg, sweetener, apple compote to the dry ingredients, mix it. Make sure to throw the apples in the mix, that are waiting on the side lines. 5. This wonderful mix goes in an oven-proof dish in the oven (preheated as always at 180°). Let this warm up for approximately 30 minutes. In the meantime, no time for tea, you should be preppin' the crumble by mixing everything together from the crumble section. Crumble goes on top, and the whole creation stays in the oven for another 15 minutes until golden brown. 6. Time to serve this deliciousness up.
You know how they say, sharing is caring? Well, on that note, research has recently shown that eating in company is just as important as the actual food. So no more eating alone, shuffling food in your mouth while you are on the go. Sit with some nice company at the kitchen table and enjoy this amazing breakfast.
Best served with some greek yoghurt or ice cream, depending on the season obviously!
...and that's the way the apple crumbles!
